This double degree offers a distinct integration of psychology, counselling and human movement, and the opportunity to choose from a range of specialist streams including exercise and sport science, and health and physical education. The program provides you with a strong theoretical, practical and multi-disciplinary industry focus. This program is the only program of its type in South Australia with a core sequence of courses recognised by the Australian Counselling Association.
Throughout the program, you will develop a holistic understanding of the impact of exercise and physical activity on biological, psychological and social parameters of human life, across populations and environments. You will gain an understanding of the theoretical basis of psychology and a solid introduction to the theory and practice of counselling, as well as develop critical, analytical thinking and data management skills.
With further study, this double degree can form the first part of a pathway to becoming a practising psychologist or teacher.
To become a registered sports and exercise psychologist, you will also be required to complete the following:
- an additional honours year in psychology AND
- 2-year Master of Psychology OR 3-year professional doctorate specialising in sports and exercise psychology OR
- 2 years of supervised practice with a registered psychologist
To become a teacher, you will be required to complete a Master of Teaching.
To be eligible to apply for Psychology Honours, you will need to successfully complete the relevant prerequisite courses and meet a minimum GPA requirement.
You can also go on to complete further study in a number of areas including counselling, health, business and social sciences, as well as graduate entry physiotherapy.
