The University of South Australia’s new Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree allows you to study a double major – giving you the opportunity to pursue two areas of academic interest and enhance your career options at the same time.
It differs from other BA degrees offered in South Australia by allowing you to build concentrated foundations of knowledge in two distinct (but potentially complementary) areas of expertise, with valuable applications in contemporary workplaces. Students have the opportunity to earn a double major in what is arguably the most discipline-diverse faculty in South Australia and includes access to an extraordinary array of educators, physical and technological resources and professional options.
You can apply directly to one of the seven majors offered in the Bachelor of Arts – English and Creative Writing; History and Cultural Studies; International Relations; Languages; Linguistics; Performing Arts; Sociology – or you can apply to the Bachelor of Arts with no specialisation and select your first major upon entry. Regardless of which application pathway you choose, you will have until the end of your first year to nominate your second major.
The Bachelor of Arts (Performing Arts) may also be studied as a pathway into the Master of Teaching (Secondary) degree. You can apply through SATAC for this pathway using SATAC code 444521, and upon completing your Bachelor of Arts (Performing Arts) degree with a minimum GPA of 4.0, gain guaranteed entry to the Master of Teaching (Secondary) in your specialisation. The Master of Teaching (Secondary) prepares you to teach at middle and secondary levels and enables graduates to apply for teacher registration in South Australia, interstate and some overseas countries.
